Narrative identities, the social uses of the popular and the telenovela

Soap operas accomplish social functions that were accomplished in the past by other cultural products that were closely linked to certain social practices. Its functions have a remarked mediatized character and are supported by a media platform that has not been democratized and is free from public regulations. Thus, soap operas are, for this reason, an important source for understanding how our societies are configured.
