Sensations over time: the pain in post-war negotiations in El Salvador

Abstract

During the armed conflict, after long negotiations between representatives of the States of El Salvador and Honduras, UNHCR and the Salvadoran refugees in Honduras, it was possible the return of thousands of Salvadorans in 1987. This led to the emergence of the so-called repopulations in rural areas of Chalatenango. This text examines the formulation of a particular group inside a repopulation: the war wounded. Through the narrativization of the experiences of war wounds, I argue, that war wounded bodies, and particularly the sensation of pain, is one of the main fields of negotiation of armed conflict legacy, in particular, through the national regime of war wounds established by the Salvadoran State as part of the Peace Accords.
