Abstract
Beyond the scientific field, the defeat of many social movements affected the most radical approaches in Psychology. This has been evidenced in the reception of the works of Ignacio Martín Baró. The universality of his contributions and the Marxist elements of his thought have been denied by some critics. His contributions are, undoubtedly, a firm support of a new critical and renewing impulse of Latin American Psychology, struggling for not falling into a new intellectual dependence of the knowledge hegemonic centres.
