Abstract
The purpose of this research is to establish a starting point for future power generation projects using floating photovoltaic systems. This technology has been used in various countries around the world and could be instrumental in revolutionizing El Salvador’s energy mix, as it aims both to promote renewable solar energy projects that meet the country’s sustainability goals and to free up the space that would otherwise have been occupied by ground-mounted photovoltaic systems. Throughout this document, we examine, step by step, how these plants operate, their design purpose, their functionality, and their potential in El Salvador when combined with hydroelectric power plants. We will also conduct a brief study of the components and a feasibility analysis regarding the development of a large-scale project. It also discusses various applications with other technologies and how the floating photovoltaic system can work in conjunction with them.
