Periodicity of the journal

Proceso is a weekly publication. Its publication takes place every Thursday of every week. In each issue, one or two articles are published in which the national situation is analyzed.

More than 5 publications are made in the year.

History of the journal

Proceso began publishing in June 2020. The name takes up a tool that was very useful for those who follow up on the national reality. But it is not, as some will also surely think, about "revive the dead". The previous version of Proceso (1980-2008) made clear reference, in the context of the civil war, to the peace process that should be imbued with justice, as promoted by the UCA. The current publication of Proceso was born in the context of a pandemic as a multidisciplinary and voluntary effort. We take advantage of the name because Proceso connotes dynamism, construction, advancement. If the covid-19 pandemic and the disasters caused by vulnerability to inclement weather have confirmed anything to us, it is that we cannot continue to settle for the country we have. The great socio-economic inequalities, the destruction of the environment, the corruption of before and now, the primacy of the market over human life, the fragility of our institutions and a culture of tolerance to authoritarianism predispose us to suffer crises like the ones we are experiencing and that have us on the verge of infeasibility as a country.

Sections of the journal

Proceso consists of three sections named as follows:

  1. X-ray: This section presents an analysis of the situation in the country. It is a kind of editorial that reflects the issues and points of view on which the publication focuses. The editorials of the newsletter are written by different academics and social projection staff of the University: Amparo Marroquín, Willian Marroquín, Omar Serrano, Roberto Deras and Fátima Peña.
  2. From the Academy: in this section, a more extensive analysis is presented and from a perspective that contemplates theoretical elements that allow a better understanding of the national reality. Articles published in this section must be unpublished.
  3. Facts of the week: This section presents a compilation of the most important political events that have occurred during the week.

Target audience

The journal is aimed at the general public in order to provide a systematic analysis on the main current issues of national reality, although it also seeks to reach, especially researchers, decision makers, students, etc.
