Abstract
This study showcases, from a technical and social perspective, the evolution of water pollution in Salvadoran rivers. As a novel contribution on this matter, the study also reveals the presence of emerging contaminants in the Lempa River and the Cerrón Grande Dam as well as in drinking water of a popular town in San Salvador, the Salvadoran capital city. All this information has been used to analyze the hydrosocial cycle and the way in which the lack of access to quality water affects the lives of Salvadorans.
