Abstract
The homily delivered during the Eucharistic celebration on the 32nd Anniversary of the UCA martyrs begins by evoking the Martyrs of Paraguay, Roque Gonzalez and companions, whose feast is celebrated the same day of the UCA martyrs. Some significant events of the life of Roque Gonzalez are underscored as illustrating the meaning of the defense of the poor. An inattention to memory is criticized because it leads to indifference and persecution. Nowadays, persecution is performed with lies, slander and unfounded accusations. The relationship between memory, discernment and prophesy is underlined as central to the lives of the martyrs of the UCA. An exhortation is made to dream prophetically as means of demonstrating attentiveness to God’s words and an engaged Christian life.
