Author Guidelines
ECA publishes essays and academic articles in Spanish related to the various disciplines of social sciences and humanities, economics and business, engineering and architecture, relevant to the analysis of the Salvadoran and Central American reality.
The publication of original scientific articles and essays is bound by the following guidelines:
a) Articles must be original and unpublished in Spanish;
b) Articles should have a minimum length of 8,000 words and a maximum of 12,000 words, including bibliographical references;
c) Papers should be submitted in Word format (*.doc) with all margins at 2.5 cm on letter size paper, numbered in the lower right corner;
d) The typography of the texts will be Times New Roman at 12 points aligned to the left, spacing 1.15 points;
e) Articles should contain:
- Title, and optionally subtitle, with a maximum of 20 words in Spanish and translated into English.
- Summary (between 150 and 250 words) in Spanish and English (abstract).
- List of between three and five key words in Spanish and English (keywords), different from the words in the title and ideally from thesaurus.
f) Authors' data. These data should be provided for each author of the work:
- Institutional affiliation (or independent researcher);
- E-mail address so that readers can communicate directly with the author;
- Country of residence;
- ORCID digital identifier number (https://orcid.org/);
- Brief summary of your curriculum vitae (maximum 100 words) in a separate file;
g) Articles should be organized following a clear structure. As a guideline, the following structure is suggested:
- Introduction: points out the importance of the topic for the study of Salvadoran and Central American reality; explains the framework in which the article is developed and the research questions that motivate it; explanation of the particular approach of the work; presents the structure of the article;
- Development: acknowledgement of previous works or the state of the art in the subject; explanation of the methodology used (sequence of steps, techniques, sources); presentation, argumentation and discussion of results or approaches of the work based on evidence and with the support of paratextual elements such as figures and tables and reference to the literature of the field of study addressed;
- Conclusions: answer to the research questions in the framework of the article and its potential contributions to the literature on the subject of study; identifies possible future lines of research or alternative and complementary approaches;
- Bibliographic references: should comply with APA 7th edition standards and privilege the use of relevant and updated references (less than 15 years of publication); include references from indexed journals and ECA, guaranteeing their traceability through Digital Object Identifier (doi);
h) Complementary documents such as: charts, tables must be submitted in Excel format (*.xls) in separate files, numbered consecutively, guaranteeing due respect for possible copyrights in case they are not self produced;
i) Figures (images, graphs, maps, diagrams, scanned photos) should be submitted in formats (*.jpg or *.png) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi in separate files, numbered consecutively, ensuring due respect for possible copyrights in case they are not self-produced. Authors should consider that the physical publication of ECA is in black and white, so it is suggested to use only grayscales;
j) Articles may use footnotes, but strictly oriented to clarification aspects and with a maximum length of 50 words each;
k) The article should be sent, in digital format, to the e-mail of the main editor and to the e-mail of the journal with all the complementary elements: CV of authors, tables and figures.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check that their submission meets all of the elements shown below. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to authors:
- Articles must be original and unpublished in Spanish, except in the case of material for the translations section;
- The article should be sent in digital format in Word format and in letter size to the following e-mail addresses: cferrufino@uca.edu.sv; revista.eca@uca.edu.sv; rgalvez@uca.edu.sv.
- Authors should indicate their institutional affiliation, e-mail address, country of residence and ORCID number;
- Citations and bibliographic references should follow the APA 7th. Edition;
- The typography of the texts should be Times New Roman at 12 points;
- Texts should adhere to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements included in the Author Guidelines in About the Journal.
Editorial
Brindar una opinión académica sobre temas de interés de la realidad salvadoreña o centroamericana.
Las editoriales y presentaciones no llevan palabras clave, según las recomendaciones de Latindex.
Reading the Diario Oficial
Se trabajará de manera estándar para las secciones de ECA "Leyendo el Diario Oficial" el metadato de título, respetando las iniciales mayúsculas, ya que se hace referencia al nombre propio del periódico. Por lo tanto, cada número de ECA que posea esta sección deberá redactarse de la siguiente manera: Leyendo el Diario Oficial.
Evite estas versiones:

Documents
La sección Documentos es diferente de "Documentación" y se trabajará de forma independiente dependiendo de la estructura del PDF. Si Digitalización envió un documento unificado, se procederá a cortar y separar, analizando si cada uno de los títulos posee su respectiva autoría de forma independiente.
Documentation
Esta sección se trabajará utilizando el metadato de título (consecutivamente, uno tras otro, dividido por punto y coma (;)
Ejemplo: Título1; Título2; Título3
Editoriales
Esta sección será utilizada en los casos particulares en los que los números o documentos a depositar en OJS contengan dos o más editoriales.
Los títulos de las 2 o más editoriales se trabajarán de la siguiente manera en un mismo registro:
Título1; Título2; Título3
Se registrará a todos los colaboradores de cada editorial si es que los posee o en su defecto, se utilizará ECA: Estudios Centroamericanos si ambas editoriales pertenecen al editor o no se menciona autor alguno.

Presentations
Esta sección se utilizará para los ítems o números históricos de ECA que posean 2 o más documentos denominados "presentaciones" al igual que las secciones editorial y editoriales, está sección no aplica el uso de palabras clave según recomendaci´´on Latindex.
