Author Guidelines

ECA publishes essays and academic articles in Spanish related to the various disciplines of social sciences and humanities, economics and business, engineering and architecture, relevant to the analysis of the Salvadoran and Central American reality.

The publication of original scientific articles and essays is bound by the following guidelines:

a) Articles must be original and unpublished in Spanish;

b) Articles should have a minimum length of 8,000 words and a maximum of 12,000 words, including bibliographical references;

c) Papers should be submitted in Word format (*.doc) with all margins at 2.5 cm on letter size paper, numbered in the lower right corner;

d) The typography of the texts will be Times New Roman at 12 points aligned to the left, spacing 1.15 points;

e) Articles should contain:

  • Title, and optionally subtitle, with a maximum of 20 words in Spanish and translated into English.
  • Summary (between 150 and 250 words) in Spanish and English (abstract).
  • List of between three and five key words in Spanish and English (keywords), different from the words in the title and ideally from thesaurus.

f) Authors' data. These data should be provided for each author of the work:

  • Institutional affiliation (or independent researcher);
  • E-mail address so that readers can communicate directly with the author;
  • Country of residence;
  • ORCID digital identifier number (https://orcid.org/);
  • Brief summary of your curriculum vitae (maximum 100 words) in a separate file;

g) Articles should be organized following a clear structure. As a guideline, the following structure is suggested:

  • Introduction: points out the importance of the topic for the study of Salvadoran and Central American reality; explains the framework in which the article is developed and the research questions that motivate it; explanation of the particular approach of the work; presents the structure of the article;
  • Development: acknowledgement of previous works or the state of the art in the subject; explanation of the methodology used (sequence of steps, techniques, sources); presentation, argumentation and discussion of results or approaches of the work based on evidence and with the support of paratextual elements such as figures and tables and reference to the literature of the field of study addressed;
  • Conclusions: answer to the research questions in the framework of the article and its potential contributions to the literature on the subject of study; identifies possible future lines of research or alternative and complementary approaches;
  • Bibliographic references: should comply with APA 7th edition standards and privilege the use of relevant and updated references (less than 15 years of publication); include references from indexed journals and ECA, guaranteeing their traceability through Digital Object Identifier (doi);

h) Complementary documents such as: charts, tables must be submitted in Excel format (*.xls) in separate files, numbered consecutively, guaranteeing due respect for possible copyrights in case they are not self produced;

i) Figures (images, graphs, maps, diagrams, scanned photos) should be submitted in formats (*.jpg or *.png) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi in separate files, numbered consecutively, ensuring due respect for possible copyrights in case they are not self-produced. Authors should consider that the physical publication of ECA is in black and white, so it is suggested to use only grayscales;

j) Articles may use footnotes, but strictly oriented to clarification aspects and with a maximum length of 50 words each;

k) The article should be sent, in digital format, to the e-mail of the main editor and to the e-mail of the journal with all the complementary elements: CV of authors, tables and figures.
