About the Journal

Definition of the journal

ECA is a journal of the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas, UCA. It was founded in 1946 by the Society of Jesus.
ECA is a means of academic dissemination that has been sustained over time. The originality and rigor of its publications has allowed it to transcend national and regional borders. Its pages have become a teaching institution of the Salvadoran and Central American reality.

Objectives of the magazine

The objective of the journal is to inform the scientific community and the general public about political, legal, social, cultural, economic, environmental, health and humanities issues that describe and interpret the socio-cultural framework of Central American societies.

Periodicity of the journal

ECA is published four times a year on a quarterly basis. Currently, the journal covers January-March, April-June, July-September and October-December. It also publishes more than 5 articles per year.

Sections of the journal and objectives of each section


Editorial: to provide an academic opinion on topics of interest of the Salvadoran or Central American reality.
Articles: publish research and other unpublished academic writings of interest to the scientific community and the general public. These articles may refer to specific national or regional situations or to topics selected by the editorial board.
Documents: to disseminate documentation in general that cannot be easily located in other sources, such as judicial sentences, homilies, reports or official communiqués related to the Salvadoran reality, among others.


To whom the journal is addressed

The journal is aimed at the scientific community, academics and the general public in order to contribute to the national reality and social justice.
