Author Guidelines

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

Process Engineering

Process engineering includes all those unit operations, or set of unit operations, that comprise physical or chemical transformations of raw materials, including energy exchange processes. This topic includes applications, research, case studies or technological developments typical of chemical engineering and food engineering, covering laboratory, pilot and industrial scales.

Environment and Energy

Energy and the environment are fundamental for sustainable development. The demand for environmental resources, especially water, food, and fuels, is continuously growing. To ensure the sustainability of resources, it is necessary to consider innovative ideas that make their use efficient. This topic includes proposals related to renewable energies; efficiency and energy saving; monitoring, control and prevention of environmental pollution; waste management; impacts of climate change; and sustainable use of natural resources.

Operations Management

Productive systems represent sources of employment, production of goods, and provision of services necessary for development. However, achieving sustainable industrial processes is a challenge that requires innovation. This topic includes proposals that promote the efficiency of productive systems through new or better products and productive processes; studies of new materials for the production of goods; supervision and control of industrial processes; cleaner production strategies; and inclusive and sustainable industries.

Networks, Systems, and Communication

Information and communication technologies directly support all fields of science in the storage, analysis, processing, and presentation of information. This support allows the application and development of new knowledge in all fields of engineering. This topic includes works related to the development and use of specialized software and software implementation, as well as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for problem-solving in sciences and engineering.

Design, Structures, and Materials

This topic aims to promote the process of creation and development of space organization, environment integration, as well as responsible modifications through sustainable, efficient, and functional structures and materials. The research related to this topic should enhance the optimization of resources to solve problems of great relevance in the country, such as the housing deficit, the deficit of buildings intended to provide basic health and education services, and the deficit in communication routes, such as roads and bridges. This topic also welcomes research related to new materials and construction technologies, with the repair and/or structural reinforcement of existing buildings.

Architecture, Design, and Urbanism:

The development of this topic establishes a connection with research, case studies, prototype proposals, interdisciplinary projects, which integrate methods or tools in the interpretation, analysis, and development of urban design, architectural and landscape proposals, public space, territorial management, mobility, transport, and restoration, in urban and rural contexts. Architectural design works are included, with an emphasis on the research of identity, history, theory, criticism of architecture and architectural heritage, as well as sustainable and traditional technologies in construction.

Education and Topics in Engineering

Education is a fundamental pillar for the development of a society. This topic seeks to group those studies related to education in the area of engineering, as well as those related to the use of technology for the improvement of educational processes, considering teaching practices with methodological and technological innovations in the classroom. This topic brings together emerging areas of research, technological advances, current problems in the industry, practical applications of theories and concepts, among other relevant topics for engineers and specialized professionals.

Community and Society

This topic includes research approached from different collaborative perspectives, with a focus on risk assessment, mitigation, and resilient infrastructure that integrate practical methods or tools for the analysis and study of specific problems or topics in the area of engineering and architecture.
